How to Rent a Tesla Model 3: Monthly Rental vs. Rent-to-Own
Rent a Tesla Model 3 month-to-month or Rent-to-Own it with no credit check. Free continental U.S. delivery, maintenance and tires included. Here's how it works.

You can get a Tesla Model 3 two ways through TeslaRented: a month-to-month rental at one flat monthly rate, or Rent-to-Own, where you pay a first payment upfront, make biweekly payments for 48 months, and the title goes in your name at the end. Neither option requires a credit check, both include maintenance, brakes and tires, and both come with free delivery to any address in the continental U.S.
The Model 3 is the car most people have in mind when they search for a Tesla rental, and for good reason: it's the smallest and most efficient car in the lineup, which usually makes it the lowest monthly cost and the cheapest to charge. Here's how to choose between the two programs and what to expect.
Can you rent a Tesla Model 3 for a month?
Yes. A month-to-month Model 3 rental is one flat rate per month, with no ownership commitment and no long contract. You return the car when your plans change.
That structure exists because of who actually needs a Tesla for more than a few days:
- People on a work assignment or relocation of a few months
- New arrivals to the U.S. who don't have a credit file yet
- Drivers waiting on a car order, an insurance claim or a repair
- Anyone who wants to live with a Model 3 for a while before committing to a 48-month term
- Rideshare and delivery drivers testing whether EV economics work in their market
Because it's month-to-month, you're not locked in. If you keep it for three months, you pay for three months. Monthly rentals take a refundable deposit, which is returned after the return inspection. You can see what's in the fleet right now on the available Teslas page.
How does Rent-to-Own work on a Model 3?
Rent-to-Own is for the person who wants to own a Model 3 but can't or doesn't want to go through a bank. There's no credit check and no loan application.
- Pick your Model 3. Trim, color and mileage vary by car, so availability drives the choice.
- Make the first payment upfront. Rent-to-Own uses the first payment instead of a deposit.
- Pay biweekly for 48 months. Payments land every two weeks instead of monthly, which lines up with how most people get paid.
- Get the title in your name. The title is transferred within 14 business days after the 48-month term is complete and the final payment clears.
- Cancel anytime if life changes. There are no termination fees. You hand the car back and the agreement ends. Payments already made don't carry over.
Maintenance, brakes and tires are included for the whole term, and if your car goes in for service you get a backup car so you're never without transportation. The full program details are on the Rent-to-Own page, and you can estimate a payment for a specific car with the Rent-to-Own calculator.
Monthly rental vs. Rent-to-Own for a Model 3
| Month-to-month rental | Rent-to-Own | |
| Commitment | None β return anytime | 48 months, cancel anytime with no fee |
| Payment rhythm | One flat monthly rate | First payment upfront, then biweekly |
| Credit check | None | None |
| Upfront | Refundable deposit | First payment (no deposit) |
| End result | You return the car | Title in your name |
| Maintenance, brakes, tires | Included | Included |
| Backup car during service | Included | Included |
| Delivery | Free, continental U.S. | Free, continental U.S. |
| Mileage | Plans start at 1,000 mi/month | Plans start at 1,000 mi/month |
| Best for | Short horizons, no commitment | Building toward ownership without a loan |
A simple way to decide: if you can't confidently say you'll still want this car a year from now, start with the monthly rental. If you already know you want a Model 3 in your driveway long-term, Rent-to-Own gets you there and ends with the title in your name.
Why the Model 3 instead of a Model Y, S or X?
All four models are available, but the Model 3 generally wins on cost per mile.
- It's the most efficient Tesla. Lower weight and a sedan profile mean it uses less energy per mile than the SUVs in the lineup. That shows up directly in your charging bill every month.
- It's usually the lowest monthly cost. The Model 3 sits at the entry point of the lineup, so both the flat monthly rate and the biweekly Rent-to-Own payment tend to be the smallest of the four.
- It's easy to park and live with. A compact sedan footprint, city-friendly turning, and it still seats five adults.
- The interior is minimal but complete. One center screen runs everything, and recent Model 3s are noticeably quiet inside thanks to added sound insulation and acoustic glass.
Choose a Model Y instead if you need a hatchback opening, more cargo height or a higher seating position β families and drivers hauling gear usually prefer it. Choose a Model S or Model X if interior space and presence matter more to you than cost per mile. For specs, trims and what's currently in stock, see the Tesla Model 3 page.
How far does a Model 3 go, and how do you charge it?
Real-world range depends heavily on trim, weather, speed and how many passengers you're carrying. Rear-wheel-drive Model 3s sit at the lower end of the lineup's range and Long Range versions at the higher end β plan on a few hundred miles per full charge, and let the car's navigation handle routing and charging stops on longer drives.
Charging comes down to three habits:
- Home or workplace Level 2 charging is the cheapest. Plug in overnight, wake up full. If you have a garage outlet or a charger at work, you'll rarely visit a public station.
- Superchargers are for road trips and heavy-mileage days. Navigate to one in the car and it preconditions the battery so charging starts fast. Supercharging is the renter's cost and is billed automatically to the card on file.
- Set a daily charge limit around 80%. Charge to 100% only before a long trip. It's the standard advice for battery longevity and it applies to a rented Model 3 the same as an owned one.
Public charging costs vary a lot by state and by time of day, so the honest answer on "what will charging cost me" is that it depends on where you live and whether you can plug in at home.
Can you rent a Model 3 for Uber or Lyft?
Yes, and the Model 3 is one of the most popular rideshare cars in the country for a reason. Electricity costs less per mile than gasoline in most markets, there are no oil changes, and with TeslaRented the brakes and tires are included β which is exactly where high-mileage drivers normally bleed money. Regenerative braking also means brake pads wear far more slowly than they would on a gas car doing stop-and-go city miles.
Two things to plan for before you commit:
- Mileage. Mileage plans start at 1,000 miles per month, with higher plans available. Tell us your realistic monthly driving before delivery so you're on the right plan from day one. Full-time rideshare drivers will need more than the starting plan.
- Platform requirements. Uber and Lyft set their own vehicle-year and category rules, and EV-specific ride categories vary city to city. Check the requirements in your market before you pick a specific car.
If you're not sure which mileage plan fits your driving, call or text (818) 458-8729 and we'll talk it through.
What do you need to qualify?
Both programs skip the credit check, which is the step that stops most people from getting into a Tesla. There's no income verification and no application scoring, and payments aren't reported to credit bureaus as debt.
What you do need is straightforward:
- A valid U.S. driver's license
- Your own full-coverage insurance policy with EK Rentals, Inc. listed as interested party / additional insured
- The first payment for Rent-to-Own, or the refundable deposit for a month-to-month rental
If you can't add the car to your own policy, we'll help you look at coverage options. Additional drivers have to be on the policy and approved in writing. Tickets, tolls and Supercharging are the renter's responsibility.
No loan application, no co-signer hunt, no hard inquiry on your credit report. If a thin credit file, a past repossession, a bankruptcy or simply being new to the U.S. has gotten you declined before, the no credit check Tesla page explains exactly how that works here.
How does delivery work?
Delivery is free to any address in the continental U.S. You don't drive to a rental counter and you don't fly to Los Angeles to pick up a car. Tell us the address β house, apartment, hotel or office β and the Model 3 comes to you. Our home base is Glendale, California, but the program isn't limited to the Los Angeles area.
If you need specifics about how delivery will work at your address, call or text (818) 458-8729.
