Long-Term Tesla Rental: How It Works and What It Costs

A long-term Tesla rental is a flat monthly rate with no end date. Here's how month-to-month works, what's included, mileage plans, and when Rent-to-Own fits better.

A long-term Tesla rental is a month-to-month rental: one flat monthly rate, no fixed end date, and you return the car when your plans change. At TeslaRented it covers Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X, includes maintenance, brakes and tires, and comes with a backup car while yours is serviced. If you expect to keep the car for years and want to end up owning it, Rent-to-Own is the program to look at instead β€” the title goes in your name after 48 months of biweekly payments.

Below is how a long-term rental actually works, what's included, how mileage plans are set, and how to decide between the two programs.

What counts as a "long-term" Tesla rental?

There's no official definition, but in practice it means anything past a month. A long-term rental is billed monthly, like a membership, and renews on its own until you say stop.

TeslaRented's month-to-month rental is built for exactly that window:

  • 3 months β€” a contract, a relocation, a travel assignment
  • 6 months β€” a trial run before you commit to owning an EV
  • A year or more β€” you want a Tesla without a lease, a loan, or a trade-in

How does a month-to-month Tesla rental work?

  1. Pick a model. Browse available Teslas and choose Model 3, Model Y, Model S or Model X.
  2. Pick a mileage plan. Plans start at 1,000 miles a month and go up in 1,000-mile steps to 6,000. Mileage is never unlimited on a standard plan β€” pick the step that matches how you actually drive.
  3. Start the reservation. A small refundable deposit starts it and is credited toward your first payment.
  4. Complete the payment. The car is held for your start date once the first month plus the refundable security deposit is paid. That payment stays fully refundable until 10 days before your pickup or delivery date.
  5. Take delivery or pick up. We deliver to any address in the continental U.S.; for month-to-month rentals delivery is quoted per address, so ask when you reserve.
  6. Renew or return. It rolls month to month. When you're done, you return the car β€” there are no termination fees β€” and your security deposit comes back after the return inspection.

What's included in a long-term Tesla rental?

  • Maintenance, brakes and tires. Handled by us, not billed to you.
  • A backup car while yours is in for service, so you're not stranded.
  • Repairs on a clock. If the car isn't in working order, it's repaired or replaced within two business days, and you're not charged for the downtime.
  • Your choice of model. Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X.

What's on you: insurance, Supercharging, tolls and tickets. You carry your own full-coverage policy with EK Rentals, Inc. listed as interested party / additional insured. If you can't add the car to an existing policy, we'll help you look at coverage options. Supercharging is billed automatically to the card you keep on file.

How much does a long-term Tesla rental cost?

Rates depend on the model and the mileage plan you choose, and they move with the live fleet, so the only honest number is the one on the site today. Check available Teslas for current monthly pricing, or call or text (818) 458-8729 and we'll quote your model, mileage plan and delivery address together.

Two things that drive the number:

  • Model. Model 3 is the entry point; Model Y sits above it; Model S and Model X are the premium end.
  • Miles. Each 1,000-mile step above the base plan adds to the rate. If you're driving 3,000 miles a month, price the 3,000-mile plan from the start rather than guessing low.

Budget separately for insurance and charging. Charging at home on a normal residential rate is usually the cheapest way to run the car; Supercharging costs more per mile but is everywhere.

Long-term rental vs Rent-to-Own: which one fits?

Both programs put the same cars in your driveway with maintenance, brakes and tires covered. The difference is what happens at the end.

Choose month-to-month if your timeline is genuinely uncertain β€” a contract that might not renew, a city you might not stay in, or an EV you're still deciding about.

Choose Rent-to-Own if you know you want the car long-term and you'd rather the payments lead somewhere. The Rent-to-Own calculator shows what the biweekly schedule looks like for each model and mileage plan.

One thing to be straight about: what's different here isn't the monthly number. It's that there's no credit check and no application to fail, maintenance, brakes and tires are covered, you can hand the car back without a penalty, and on Rent-to-Own the title ends up in your name.

Who does a long-term Tesla rental work best for?

People on assignment. Travel nurses, consultants, construction and film crews β€” anyone in a city for three to twelve months who doesn't want to ship a car or sign a lease.

People new to the U.S. No U.S. credit file means no loan approval at most banks. Qualification here is simple: any licensed driver in the U.S. who can insure a Tesla. See no-credit-check Tesla options for how that works.

Rideshare and delivery drivers. Electricity instead of gas, and maintenance, brakes and tires are covered rather than billed to you. If that's you, the higher mileage plans are built for that kind of driving.

People testing EV life. Living with a Tesla for six months teaches you more about charging, range in cold weather and road-trip planning than any test drive. If it works, you can move to Rent-to-Own; if it doesn't, you return the car.

People between cars. A car that's totaled, sold, or stuck waiting on a build slot doesn't have to mean months without a vehicle.

Can a long-term rental be delivered to me?

Yes β€” we deliver to any address in the continental U.S. For month-to-month rentals, delivery is quoted per address rather than included, so get the quote before you lock in your start date. Rent-to-Own delivery is free anywhere in the continental U.S.

We're headquartered in Glendale, California, in the Los Angeles area. If you have a question about your specific address or start date, call or text (818) 458-8729.

How many miles do you get?

Plans run from 1,000 to 6,000 miles a month in 1,000-mile steps. Pick based on real driving, not optimism: a 20-mile round-trip commute five days a week is about 450 miles a month before errands and weekends. Rideshare and delivery drivers usually need one of the higher mileage steps. If your driving changes, call or text us to talk about your plan.
